“This piece reflects my love and reverence of trees — their graceful, columnar, beckoning, magical qualities. They have so much character and gesture. When I look up at the canopy of trees in the sunlight, the leaves look dark and lacy — a silhouette of beautiful shapes where the light comes through. I like to look at the delicate patterns created. I wanted to create a two-dimensional tree silhouette, but one that was animated and alive with images of birds, leaves, pomegranates — symbols of life and light.
